Standard Flatbeds
A standard drop deck trailer has several advantages over a flatbed trailer. Depending on what you're hauling, a drop deck trailer can be a safer and more efficient option. However, not all companies have a drop deck trailer in their fleet or the capital to buy one. If that's your case, Equip Trucking & Warehousing can help. As a drop deck truck transportation company, we work hard to serve a variety of industries and locations to give you a positive experience every time we haul something for you.
What Is a Standard Drop Deck Trailer?
A drop deck trailer, also known as a step deck trailer, is a different flatbed trailer design that features a bottom and top deck. These trailers are used for drop deck hauling and are meant to haul tall equipment that can't be legally transported on a standard flatbed because of height. They can carry a maximum freight weight of 48,000 pounds.
Drop deck trailers can help with some of the limitations of flatbed trailers, the main one being height. For example, exceeding the maximum height of 8'6" is easier with a flatbed trailer. A drop deck has a maximum height of about 20 inches more.

Applications and Industries
A drop deck trailer is helpful for a variety of industries and applications. Industries that often need to utilize a drop deck truck transportation company include:
- Construction: Particularly large construction equipment, including cranes and backhoes, can take up too much room on a flatbed trailer. Drop deck trailer hauling is a great solution to make it through low-clearance areas.
- Agriculture: The agriculture industry is the king of heavy equipment. From combines to tractors to tillers, you need a trailer that can fit these large machines.
- Manufacturing: The manufacturing industry requires heavy equipment for both indoor and outdoor uses. Certain large forklifts may not clear shorter bridges or overpasses.
- Mining: The mining industry wouldn't survive without heavy equipment, but there also needs to be a way to transport that equipment from where it's assembled to where it needs to go.
